PBIS

Be Kind, Be Safe, Be a Learner

PBIS at Liberty

PBIS is an evidence-based tiered behavior model designed to support students academic, social, and emotional wellbeing. PBIS focuses on encouraging positive behavior and preventing problem behavior, rather than focusing on punishment.

At Liberty Elementary School, PBIS is woven into every aspect of every day. Students learn behavior expectations (aligned with our Early Childhood’s and Independence Elementary STEM’s Hornet Way behavior philosophy), positive behaviors are enforced through positive recognition, and extra support is provided to students who need it.

The focus of our Hornet Way at Liberty is to Be Safe, Be Kind and Be a Learner. Methods and expectations of how to do this is fully explained and taught to every student.

A PBIS team of teachers, and administrators continuously review behavior data and develop procedures and plans to address areas of concern.

PBIS in Action

At Liberty, we teach, reteach, and reinforce positive behavior in lots of fun ways!

Buzzing Grams

Buzzing Grams are given out throughout the school day, and even on the bus rides, when students display positive behavior.

Buzzing Grams are then collected in the giant HIVE we have in our building office. Once the HIVE is filled, a huge school-wide celebration happens. Once celebration involved our principal getting SLIMED!

Buzzing Challenges

Besides positive behaviors being taught, modeled and practiced in every classroom and on our weekly Little Hornet News (lead by 2nd grade leaders), specific behaviors are targeted during our classroom and school-wide Buzzing Challenges.

If these challenges are met, students celebrate their improvement in a fun way. For example, to celebrate improved lunchroom behavior, we had the Hornet Tunnel in our lunchroom!

Buzz Bashes

Outstanding behaviors and important character education is taught and celebrated at our bi-monthly Buzz Bashes!

This is where grade levels come together to reinforce the Little Hornet Way, learn important skills, and share joy. This is also where our Little Hornet Heroes are announced and honored for their outstanding job going above and beyond to showcase the Little Hornet Way!
