Getting To and From School

This section of the website serves to provide information and safety measures about the different ways students can get to and from school. It's important to us that students get to school and back home safely every single day!

Early Pick Up, Late Drop Offs, & Absences

Please let us know by 9am if your student will be late or absent for the day by emailing or calling the school's attendance line.

If your student needs to leave school early, please alert the office before the start of school. Before leaving for the day, we ask that you come into the office to sign them out.

If there is not a staff member outside to welcome your student when you arrive, you must come into the office with your child to check them in.

Pick Up & Drop Off Procedures

Entering Liberty School Property: Enter school property from 205th Ave onto the new entrypoint on the East side of property by tree line and Liberty fields (Marked in Orange on map). Turn right into the Liberty fields parking lot and stick to the right side of the parking lot. Turn right to go counter-clockwise through the parking lot (old Bus bay). *Do not park in this lot. Staff presence both inside and outside will help your child get to their classroom.

Pick Up & Drop Off Zone: Pull all the way up when entering the pick-up/drop-off zone to speed things along. (Marked in Light Blue on map). If you see a “Please Wait” sign outside the building, have your child remain in your vehicle. At 7:30am, you will see the “Welcome” sign. Students may enter the building at this time. Students must get in/out on the passenger side of the vehicle (curbside). Please practice with your child and move any car seats if necessary. Pick-up/Drop-off should only occur next to the curb in the drop-off zone.

Leaving the Parking Lot: Once your child has entered/exited the vehicle, please use your turn signal and check your blindspot before merging into the bypass lane and proceed safely. Exit the parking lot through the same entry point (keep right), and safely make your way back to 205th Ave.

Is someone other than a legal guardian routinely going to pick up or drop off your child?

Be sure to complete the Non-Guardian Access Form to grant proper authorization. Completed forms can be submitted to your school office, or emailed to enrollments@biglakeschools.org.

Bussing

Vision Transportation offers bussing to all students who live within district boundaries and open-enrolled students who are dropped off at an existing bus stop. Please contact Vision directly with any bussing questions or concerns.

General Safety Procedures

Walking Safety

Use a crosswalk and the crossing guards: Always cross at corners or at a marked crosswalk where drivers expect to see you. Cross with the crossing guard if your school has one.
Look before you cross: look left, right, and left again before crossing a street. Make eye contact with drivers before stepping off of the sidewalk.
Be visible: wear reflective or bright-colored clothing and walk with one or more walking buddies.
Walk with care: if there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic as far to the side of the road as possible, without weaving in and out of parked cars.

Biking Safety

Wear your helmet: it models good behavior. Helmets should fit snug, be level on your head and should always be buckled firmly under your chin.
Ride predictably: look for vehicles and signal to drivers which direction you plan to go before making turns. Ride in a straight line. Avoid the door zone, about 5 feet away from parked cars.
Ride with traffic: ride on the right, in the direction of traffic. Obey all signs and signals.
Lock your bike: when you get to school, lock your bike to a bike rack. Lock both your front wheel and the bike frame to the rack.
